Here are the latest updates on COVID-19 response in our community:
Coronavirus Cases
As of today, 174 positive cases of the coronavirus have been reported for Beaufort County, according to the latest data from the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control. The number of cases has climbed to 2,552 across the state. You can check out the number of cases in Hilton Head Island zip codes by visiting the coronavirus hub page on our website at hiltonheadislandsc.gov.
Hospital Update
Hilton Head Hospital CEO Jeremy Clark provided Town Council with an update on how he and his staff are preparing to handle any sudden surge in the number of patients with coronavirus. The hospital can expand its capacity from 109 beds up to 140 to treat patients. Staff and doctors are cross training in patient care areas and on technology so they can attend to patients in different areas. They also have access to extra technology and ventilators to treat patients should the need arise. The National Guard has evaluated space at the hospital to ensure it has the capacity it needs to care for patients and the hospital staff is working with our local emergency management team and the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control to be ready for a surge in patients.
Statewide Burn Ban
All burning is prohibited on Hilton Head Island following the State Forester’s Burning Ban for all South Carolina counties.
Birthday Celebrations
Our Fire Rescue Division wants to help brighten your child’s birthday, especially since it may be difficult to host a birthday party at this time. Our Fire & Life Safety Educator can help schedule a team to drive by with fire truck and ambulance to sing happy birthday. We’ll need two days’ notice. Call 843-247-4577 to schedule.
Take a Moment to Say Thanks
