The sea turtle nesting season starts Today, May 1st! The Sea Turtle Patrol operate under a permit issued by the South Carolina Department of Natural Resources. This means they are the only ones permitted to mark nests, move nests, record and transmit data, and handle/supervise all sea turtle activities. The Turtle Trackers are a sister organization who educate island guests and often serve as “hosts” on the beach to visitors looking for more information.
As you visit or live on Hilton Head Island, please be aware of all signage regarding sea turtles and wildlife in general. There is a strict “Lights Out From 10pm to 6am” on all beachfront locations, along with signage and window clings on walkways.
