Alligator Safety – Immediate Fishing Ban Many of you may already be aware, but there was a significant alligator incident last Thursday, June 22nd. No one was hurt, but it was definitely a close call when an alligator followed a gentleman who was fishing near the golf club. Love Is In The Air! Alligator Mating Season
Mating season is from late April to June. During this time, they are likely to wander through lagoons as they search for a mate. In the evening or through the nights, males “bellow” as he tries to attract a female. After a courtship in which the male claims a territory and courts a female, the female lays between 20-60 eggs near a body of fresh water and covers them with trees branches, leaves, and other vegetation. ALLIGATOR SAFETY IN SHIPYARD Warm spring weather means alligators are more active and more visible. Rising temperatures increase an alligator’s metabolism, which means they begin seeking prey. Occasionally you’ll see them basking in the sun as they regulate their body temperature. Alligator mating season begins in early April and goes into June. All of this means that you may encounter an alligator when walking near the water, participating in recreational water activities, or if the alligator has been fed and become habituated to humans.
