Red Flashlights On The Beach

From May 1st through October 31st, sea turtles make Hilton Head Island their home. Many local sea turtles decide to pay their eggs on our beaches and soon after they start to hatch. According to the Sea Turtle Patrol Hilton Head, the group has found 134 total sea turtle nests on the island so far. Regular white lights can be distracting to newly hatched sea turtles and can deter them from finding their way into the ocean. Alligator Mating Season

 Mating season is from late April to June. During this time, they are likely to wander through lagoons as they search for a mate. In the evening or through the nights, males “bellow” as he tries to attract a female. After a courtship in which the male claims a territory and courts a female, the female lays between 20-60 eggs near a body of fresh water and covers them with trees branches, leaves, and other vegetation.
